Interstellar - Review

In a not so distant future, an ex-engineer from NASA who has a normal life as a farmer with his two children and his father but something is happening, a sandstorm is razing all over the world causing extreme changes in climate and wiping out the food. The man joins a group of explorers to travel through a wormhole that appeared mysteriously in the middle of space to find another planet in a new and unexplored galaxy. The man has to ask himself if to leave behind his family or save human race.
After finding some unstable planets where no one could live, he takes a turn to the mission by wanting to go back to his home planet and see his children (now adults) again.

I prefer not to spoil anything from this movie because it has too many twists and surprises. The plot is very interesting as you can expect but there are some questions never answered, maybe the writers forgot about answering them but the movie would have been a perfect 10 if that was corrected.
It is hard to talk about the ending without spoilers, let's say its very, very unexpected (at least, the second part of it, the part about the "ghost" was very expected).

Christopher Nolan is the director and writer of this film (famous for The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception and The Prestige), the good thing about him is that he always makes different kind of movies and "Interstellar" is a new kind of movie, it's all about the sound effects, you will see the soundtrack is not very extense, especially in the scenes from space as we hear it the way it has to be; silent. There's no oxygen up there and no athmosphere so the sounds there has to be zero except some small surprises that will make you jump from your seat. It's very slow-paced as well and it doesn't have so many action sequences but those are not bad comments, au contraire, that's why it makes it so different and special. Again, the story telling is not very good as it misses some important questions like how the sandstrom started, the reason of the food disappearing everywhere, how they did a blackhole in the middle of the universe, the ending theory of the "ghost".

The cast couldn't be any better, from Matthew McConaughey as the ex-engineer Cooper, Anne Hathaway as the scientist who wants to do anything to save the planet and Jessica Chastain as Murph, Cooper's daugther who tries to do and solve the entire mistery of the movie. The rest of the cast is very good as well, it's one of those few film that everything works ok.

The technical part of the film is very simple, the soundtrack doesn't fit to the movie plot but that's something they wanted to try out but it's not a bad movement thanks to the amazingly well done sound effects, the most realistic ones I've heard in a long time. The same goes to the special effects from the space and other planet's scenes, very realistic as well and enjoyable.

The movie is quite short (just 170 minutes) but it doesn't feel that long because you can't stop watching it wondering how its going to end. The beginning may be quite slow but once the NASA starts showing up it's a non-stop of surprises over and over. The ending is quite amazing, a little predictable (I think it was quite obvious from the starts who "They" were).  But what I liked the most was the feeling of making you forget everything and being transported to another reality while watching it.

· What I liked : The entire cast does an excellent job, The movie's plot and ending is great.

· What I didn't like : The beginning is very slow plus the questions not answered...

8.9

The movie tries to do something different and explains a brand-new story with amazing sound and visual effects. While some essential elements are not quite explained at all, you won't be able to stop watching it until you discover the "somehow" expected ending.
