Doctor Who : Dark Water - Review
RATED "S" FOR SPOILERS - Read at your own risk!
What a thrill! Well, I was almost sure about who Missy was since I first saw her back in Deep Breath; first I thought she was a future version of Clara but I wasn't so sure about it because of, obviously, somethings that didn't fit. Then my other option was to be the Master and I was right after all...I think it was the most obvious question as I remember, back then before Capaldi was cast as the Doctor, they were talking about the possibility of having the first female reincarnation. It would have been a risky move for the Doctor but having the Master as a female now looks great, and what a great choice to cast Michelle Rodriguez!
The episode begins with a bang, literally, Danny Pink gets hit by a car and dies. We see Clara devastated and trying to do anything to have him back. She even menaces the Doctor to go to the
past and save him but she gets a repetitive "No" from him. But that doesn't mean he won't do anything at all, he decides to go to "Hell" and look for him. That brings them to the known Promised Land. We finally get to know what it is, a plot to get the bodies and souls form the death in order to create a new army of Cybermen. The thing about Heaven and all that is a cover and Missy is the one who organizes that plan...why? we still don't know, we have to wait for the next part.
The scene I liked the most was the first meeting between the Doctor and Missy (aka. the Mistress aka. the Master). The Doctor is speechless and paralysed while Missy hugs and kiss him. After that, she puts his hand on her chest and that's when the Doctor doesn't know what to think when he feels two different heartbeats, later he remembers that and discovers her true identity. All the scenes between those two were pure adrenaline. They have great chemistry, it was awesome to watch those two actors together in such funny and thrilling scenes!
Then I have to talk about the second best scene of the episode (one of the first ones to show); the confrontation between Clara and the Doctor when she asks him to go to the past and help Danny Pink before he gets hit by a car and dies (I said spoilers!). She gets all the Tardis's keys and threats the Doctor to destroy all of them if he doesn't do what she says. You can see how mind manipulator this Doctor is the moment he tells her to throw the keys and "do as you're told!". After this, he cannout trust her anymore, it looks like their relationship will be over soon...
While this episode doesn't have any action scenes, the thrill of discoverying the new Master's face and his...I mean, her (sorry, old habits) plan involving the Cybermen and, maybe, conquer the world. Plus the tension between the Doctor and Clara is even stronger than ever. I 'm really waiting to see what's next in the last episode "Death in Heaven".
Quote of the episode:
"The Doctor: Who are you?
Missy: Oh, you know who I am. I’m Missy.
The Doctor: Who’s Missy?
Missy: Please, try to keep up. Short for Mistress. Well…I couldn’t very well keep calling myself the Master, now could I?"
· The Best : With this episode, Peter Capaldi has become my favourite Doctor! - The revelations of Missy being the Master (or Mistress) was thrilling - The confrontation between Clara and the Doctor. - The whole "Promised Land" part was quite interesting - Top acting and thrilling episode!
· The Worst : The Cybermen have never been a favourite to me - No action or over-the-hedge scenes but I think they're saving those for the last episode.

Peter Capaldi has won me over after this amazing season, I really hope he stays for two more series at least while I also hope to see more from Missy in the upcoming episodes, she's great!

I cannot say the same about Clara and Danny, while they have been quite good this season I think we won't see more from them after the Christmas Special...but who knows?
