Sherlock Season 3 - Review
This season was the weakest from all three but it has a stronger ending than the first season. Maybe it's because of the two year wait and the speculations of Sherlock's fall, that made it a disappointing start for this season as the answer to the long awaited question was too easy and simple as it seems the theory Sherlock explains to Anderson at the end of "The Empty Hearse" was the real one that happened.
The season followed up by a a comedy episode involving two unsolved cases and a speech at Watson's wedding, it was a nice and funny one but it was far away from the old episodes filled with interesting and difficult cases. These two episodes had very easy cases anyone could solve in the first minutes.
Then there was the finale involving a new nemesis for the detective who uses similar techniques like reading people and the infamous "Mind Palace" to blackmail people, Mr. Magnussen was a worth villian who had so little screen time an only one episode mainly for him. He was an interesting piece and would have been good to have him more in the other two episodes but I don't think we'll see more of him as Sherlock killed him with cold blood.
The surprise was Moriarty's very small cameos at the first and third episode, they weren't expected, plus the amazing return of him at the last seconds of the season leaving a new cliffhanger. There were lots of cameos including Sherlock's parents and Irene Adler.
1. The Empty Hearse (9.0): It was a nice start after a two year hiatus and after seeing the disapointing solution about Sherlock's fall and not interesting case of blowing up London, the good thing was to see the duo back and all the old faces!
2. The Sign of Three (9.2): Also known as "Sherlock's long speech at Watson's Wedding", it has nothing if you compare it to the entire series but it was a nice add to see different cases explained like in the books plus a more funny atmosphere!
3. His Last Vow (9.8): After those average but still good episodes, the great finale comes with the great enemy who seems like another version of Sherlock's himself in a more disgusting tone. Great ending for this season and waiting more!
9.6 / 10
Still a good season, saved by the last episode!
What we will see in season 4 is Moriarty for sure but this next season is less predictable as, in the books, Mary Watson is never pregnant and she's killed by Moriarty in one of Conan Doyle's stories. Maybe that's something will happen and she's killed off somehow and leaving John alone again with Sherlock. The next I'd like to see is a comeback for Irene Adler, I really like her character and wish to see her again, and it would be quite interesting to see John's sister someday...
