Total Recall - Review
I love sci-fi movies, those are my favourites and I loved, like everyone else, the original Total Recall by Arnie Schwarzenegger back in his old days...when I heard a new version was being made, my first words were "What the hell are they thinking?".
We are in an era when they have no new ideas, no new projects and no imagination...all the movies that are being made are out of old films, books, videogames, etc. And that's very, VERY sad!
Before I start, I'd say I give an 7.5 to the old film (an 8 before watching this new version and knowing more about the novel from it was inspired).
The film has the same plot: "For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid, even though he's got a beautiful wife who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life - real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man as he finds himself on the run from the police."
The story in this film has more politics involvement, making the president of the last country of the planet the main bad guy; here you see a more believable world that you can see how the differents cultures and discriminant acts of the powerful people who run the world...this sounds like life itself!
This film, unlike its old version, occurs only on Earth and not on Mars; this is correct if you compare it to the novel which, i think, this new version is closer to the novel than to the old film...
The main actors have done a good work, all of them as they are not so hard-to-play characters but the show is stolen by Kate Beckinsale playing as the fake wife of the main chaarcter only in this new version she has a much extended role playing as her ex-wife and the official who tracks him down all the time...she does a great job and it's even worth it to watch the film only to see her running against the hero of the film.
Also, this version is a much serious one, even you'll see again the three-breasted woman and the old fake woman like in the previous film where Arnold disguises himself. The special effects here are awesome, it looks like putting together "The Fith Element" and "I, Robot" as well as the city and the futuristic invents like hand-integrated phones and flying cars AND white-police robots!

Lot of people are blaming this film but I actually liked it as much as the old version...
BEST: Kate Beckinsale is amazing, the special effects and the way it's closer to the novel.
WORST: The main actor could have done a better job and too much action scenes of running away...
RATING: 7.5 / 10
