The Jungle Book - Review

Everybody remembers "The Jungle Book" thanks to the Disney classic cartoon and its unforgettable song "Bare Necessities". There have been so many sequels and remakes we thought this was another failure version but this time things are different thanks to this sweet and emotional adventure with some dark elements.

A man-cub named Mowgli is taken to a wolf pack after he's found alone in the jungle by a panther named Bagheera. He gets older but feels different from the rest and after the tiger Shere Khan comes back to the jungle and threathens his wolf family, he decides to leave the jungle and go back with the humans until he discovers the tiger has killed the leader of the wolf pack and decides to bring justice back. In the way the young boy meets different creatures who will help him or try to eat him.

Thanks to the realistic CGI and amazing special effects, we get to see the beautiful jungle and charismatic characters from the Disney classic. The old gang is back again, Bagheera, Baloo, King Louie, Kaa and Shere Khan and they couldn't look any better. You can clearly see their hard work by just the way the animals look and move, so real and alive.

Not only that but they have choosen the perfect actors to play those iconic roles, Bill Murray as Baloo and Ben Knigsley as Bagheera are just a perfect choice, same thing goes to the rest of the cast with special mention to the brief but great Scarlett Johansson as Kaa the snake and Christopher Walken as the funny but scary King Louie. Great voice casting but the only real actor has done quite a memorable work; the man-cub played by a new kid actor named Neel Sethi, I was quite surprised with him, it is not easy to act in a movie where everything is CGI and he kinda nail it.

Of course, this is a Disney movie and while I wasn't expecting any singing I was wrong and happily surprised after watching the scenes for the known songs "Bare Necessities" and "I wanna be like you". It was a funny and beautiful tribute to the original movie. There's another song but you'll have to wait for the credits to hear it, "Trust in Me". Kaa the snake only shows up for a couple of minutes and they already recorded her infamous song, I was kinda disappointed by that...

Some changes have been done from the original cartoon, this is a more violent and dark tale where animals get killed and Mowgli's past is more depressing, you can only feel sorry for him and wish him the best. The final and epic fight between him and the tiger is just breathtaking and not suitable for children. King Louie still has that funny voice and movements but is a lot bigger and scarier while the main characters (Baloo and Bagheera) are more friendly towards the little boy.

But one change I loved was the ending; in this tale Mowgli ends up in the jungle with his wolf family and new friends instead of going back with the humans. That's a nice way to ending full of new possibilites for the already confirmed sequel!

· What I liked most: Beautiful and realistic CGI - The change to see your favourite characters again! - Amazing and talented casting! -

· What I didn't like: Too dark movie for children, it's more for adults - I expected more from Kaa the snake (my favourite character), maybe she'll be back for the sequel?

"The Jungle Book takes you back to the old tale bringing you some old good memories and making them as real and alive as ever in a darker and more violent tone not sutiable for children anymore"
