Final Fantasy VII Remake - Open Letter to Square-Enix
Dear Square-Enix Team & Tetsuya Nomura:
This is an open letter from a huge fan of Final Fantasy. I've been playing those game for more than 20 years and while some other people may have a different opinion, this is just mine...
While I've played all Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy VII has a special place in my heart, it was my first FF and I had a special link with the characters, the story and Gaia itself. The game has so many memorable moments you cannot forget. I actually started playing the game again a couple of days ago and I cannot believe how amazing it was.
That said, I was very happy by the news of you making a remake of that marvelous game. Then I heard you were making some "changes" in the story. That's okay, I'm open to changes as long as they are for best but there are a few things you cannot touch or it will be the start of a civil war in the internet. Some moments made Final Fantasy VII the game it was and that's untouchable.
Just to name a few I'd say the infamous Don Corneo Mansion where Cloud has to dress like a woman to get in and save Tifa. This is a serious game with some emotional, thrilling and scary moments but this part made it so unexpected yet hilarious I really can't wait to see it in the graphics of today. Another moment is the entire Nibelheim sequence where we get to meet the real Sephiroth and Cloud's true identity (both). The same goes with Shinra's assault after Meteor is summounded, this list could go on and on...
Then one of my personal moments is the Gold Saucer's part where you have a date with Aerith or Tifa (or even Yuffie) depending on how nice you've been to them. That part was memorable and very sweet, I really hope they include it without anything changed.
Then there's also the "Episodic" release by different parts like Final Fantasy XIII's trilogy; that sounds like a good thing while you don't make each one of them too short or too many episodes. I've heard you are going to extend some elements of the plot, that's a good thing as long as they are interesting things or new missions and not stuff to fill in. The image in my head is a trilogy releasing a game per year starting in 2017...
So many things can be extended too, I always thought Cid's origin story was too simple and short, they can also reveal some new info about Red XIII but the character I want to see and know more about is Aerith; I was deeply touched by her, really liked her from the beginning of the game and my heart was broken to pieces after you-know-what. She has the most interesting story (besides Cloud) from the game and I hope to see more things from her and that gets me to my ultimate request: While I'm not asking to change the main plot, I really wish you can do something about having Aerith back to the party after the game ends.
Thera have been so many rumours that you can bring her back to life and all of them were fake. I really hope you can do something extra to find her again in the lifestream and have her back. That's something easy to do and you can do it without changing that epic scene where she's killed by Sephiroth (I will always hate him by that).
One last tiny thing I'm begging (and I think I'm not alone in that one) is about the soundtrack; please, do NOT change it like you did in Final Fantasy X Remaster!
