Doctor Who - Heaven Sent Review

This blog is starting to look like a Doctor Who's blog...
Rated "S" for Spoilers - Read at your own risk

After the emotional moments of "Face the Raven", the Doctor is transported into a lost, empty castle in the middle of the sea filled with flat screens where you can see what a creature covered with a veil sees. That creature is behind the Doctor and he can only run but that doesn't work until the creature is in front of him and he starts shouting he's scared, then the monster stops.
The Veil is a creature from the worst dreams of the Doctor's past who wants to discover all the Doctor's secrets without lies, that's when you realize he's actually inside his confession dial and everytime he sees this creature, he must confess something. But some secrets are meant forever and the Doctor won't reveal them. This secret may be something about the Hybrid, a creature who's said to be half Time Lord, half Dalek that will be the conqueror of Gallifrey but he claims this is a very dangerous secret and it needs to be kept locked.
He decides he must find the way out of that place, after looking for some weird and non-sense clues, everything fits together at the very end when he finds the exit blocked by a wall made by a material 400 stronger that diamond.

There are two options, one of them is to tell the truth to the Veil while the other one is the long way round; he will start hitting with his bare fists the unbreakable wall until the creature kills him and restart the entire process using the same machine re-uploading his own mind to a new clone of himself. As he says, "teletransport is like a 3D printer".
The Doctor will hit the wall, be attacked by the Veil and, while dying, go all the way back to the first room he was and upload his mind and restart the entire proccess again and again and again until the wall is finally broken. It takes up to 2 billion years to accomplish his mission and get outside the castle that was the interior of his confession dial after all. Then he discovers the real truth, he appears in a planet where you can see a famous city for all fans; Gallifrey and declares "The Hybrid destined to conquer Gallifrey and stand in its ruins is me."

This has been the most terrifying and shocking episode I've seen since the series started. Peter Capaldi shows us his skills in this one-man show where you won't see any other face but his during the more than 50 minutes episode. While the entire 50 minute will be something that will make us think and not understanding a single thing, the last 5 minutes will blown us away with the brilliant writting and revelations making it one of the most thrilling episodes ever. You cannot do anything else but feeling sorry for him...

The Doctor is alone, after the death of Clara, he's still talking like if she was there with him (old habits, he says). Like if he hasn't suffered enough, he doesn't have time to murmur her death, he has to fight for his own life. He was captured by Ashildr, watched his companion die, had his Tardis key and his mysterious confession dial confiscated, then was whisked away by teleporter to parts unknown... like he remarks " My day can't get any worse".
Showing us a similar mind palace (from Sherlock) but inside an imaginary Tardis, he developes his survival skills while facing the Viel like he was talking to an imaginary Clara inside his head. Those moments make the show perfect, just watching him talking to himself and deducting the mystery.

The ending is great, after two billion years trying to get out of the "Confession Castle", the Doctor finds out he's back in Gallifrey, he's as angry as ever he's going to make them pay for what they have done to him claiming he'll conquer the planet. I cannot wait for next week!

But if "Heaven Sent" shines to perfection is thanks to Peter Capaldi's amazing acting, they can give him an award already. It sounded difficult to make an entire episode with only one actor acting but he delivers one of the best performances we have ever seen and not only in Doctor Who. The classic tense music and scare jumps mixed with the thrilling plot makes it an enjoyable journey I think it cannot be improved.

· Quote of the Episode: "The Doctor will see you now"
"The Hybrid destined to conquer Gallifrey and stand in its ruins is me"

· What I liked most: Peter Capaldi's brilliant performance - The Veil is the scariest monster I've seen this season - The thrilling and terrifying plot - Clara's small cameo - The entire ending and revelations coming next episode.

·What I didn't like: The fact I have to wait a week for the rest of it!
