Doctor Who - Face the Raven Review

Rated "S" for Spoilers - Read at your own Risk

The episode where the finale begins. When Rigsy calls the Doctor asking for his help after he finds a weird-live tattoo in the back of his neck with a countdown, the Doctor must discover the truth after he finds out the young boy has been condemned for murder by Lady Me (Massie Williams once again). The Doctor must do everything he can to discover the truth but he cannot change the fact Clara decides on her own to transfer the killing countdown to herself.
Once he discovers everything has been a trap to capture the Doctor with a transport bracelet using Rigsy's friendship, he discovers Clara's little secret that cannot be undone. The death countdown was set to Rigsy and after Clara decided to use her own luck to save his friend reckessly, it seems like it cannot be "deactivated".
Clara's fate is set and there's nothing the Doctor can do but to say goodbye to her long time companion. She insists to keep helping people and not seeking revenge. After an emotional conversation, she faces her destiny to the raven and dies...The Doctor, watching her last moments, reminds Lady Me he usually does whatever he wants tellling her to stay away from him. A few moments later the Doctor is transported all by himself to some place still unknown.

It's always hard to say goodbye to a companion, but this is the first time we ever get to see someone killed. Clara Oswald (and Jenna Coleman, of course) has been my favourite companion ever, she was the main reason I started watching Doctor Who again after David Tennant finished his amazing role. We already knew she was leaving the show but didn't know when or how, an unfortunate way to finish but also an interesting way to see how this loss is going to affect the Doctor. Still, she will be missed...

Nice to see some cast coming back, Rigsy from "Flatline" from series 8 and Lady Me from this season. The plot was simple but had important events that will change the course of the series. Peter Capaldi as the Doctor still shines as always, the same thing goes to Jenna Coleman as Clara who had the saddest moment I remember since the series started back in 2005.
Their last conversation is very emotional and hard not to shed a tear while watching. While Clara starts discovering her mistake and discovering this may be what she was waiting for after Danny Pink passed away last season. The Doctor doesn't know what to do, he's filled with rage claiming this is his fault and sadness about losing his beloved friend. You can clearly see the mess of emotions in his eyes, now that's perfect acting!

Still, there seems to be a missing scene between Clara's death and the Doctor's entrance in the room with Rigsy and Lady Me. Her death affects him more that I expected, he tells Lady Me to stay out of his way menacing her he can bring hell to her life.

But this is Doctor Who, there may be something else going on...The episode also sets place to the finale, where the Doctor is transported somewhere still unknown...what will happen next? This finale cannot be more exciting...

· Quote of the Episode:  Too many good quotes to choose!!
                                        "Let me be brave"
"You’ll find that it’s a very small universe when I’m angry with you."
"The Doctor is no longer here. You are stuck with me. And I will end you and everything you love."

· What I liked most: Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman's performances were perfect! - The last moments between them were very sentimental but...

· What I didn't like: ... Clara's death was too cheap, she died to save a friend by a raven (crow)

8.6
