Deadpool - Review
After a long, long, long (that's what she said) wait, Deadpool has finally come, was it worth it the wait? Almost everybody claim this is the greatest super-hero movie ever made, I kinda disagree.
This is the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson (played brilliantly by Ryan Reynolds), the merc with a mouth. After falling in love with a young stripper called Vanesssa he discovers he has a terminal cancer but not everything is lost after he meets a man who claims some people can cure him by experimanting on him with something called "Weapon X". The experiment is successful by giving him accelerated healing power and a deformed body by the scientist known as Ajax. After escaping, he becomes Deadpool, he will hunt him down but things get worse when Ajax kidnaps Vanessa in a attempt to finish him once and for all.
Ryan Reynolds is back as Deadpool after the disastrous "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", the movie where Fox f**ed up this amazing character. Although Mr. Reynolds was a great choice and thanks to him this new movie based on the Deadpool we all love has been made.
People ask "Should I watch the movie?", if you enjoy Deapool comics and the videogame that was released a couple of years ago; Yes, you should. If you enjoy action-comedy movies with lots of violence, then you should watch it too! But, if you are kinda disgusted by violent scenes and blood, you shouldn't...The movie has been rated "R" so get ready to see lots of violence, swearing and nudity (including Deadpool's own genitals, I said spoilers!).
The casting has been choosen good, Ryan Reynolds shines as Deadpool (he's just Deadpool even without wearing the mask) and has a great chemistry with Morena Baccarin. But that's all, the rest of the cast is forgettable and the villian is the classic one, not bad acting at all but very one dimension characters.
Get ready for breaking the 16th wall! |
The same thing goes with the plot which is very simple, it explains the same thing we've already seen in other films. It has a couple of big action sequences with some slow-motion scenes and that's about it. It's kinda a regular film but the thing that makes it different is Deadpool himself with his never ending funniest catch phrases ever heard plus the so many references from other movies like X-Men, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds himself. There are a few parts where he breaks the fourth wall in the most unexpected way. These so many and small moments are the thing that makes this movie shine and entertain you from the very beginning with the most original opening sequence (not going to spoil this one!) until the very end (watch it until the very end after the credits).
We finally get the Deadpool film we always wanted, the merc with a mouth at his fully glory but that's about it, don't expect a thrilling plot like "The Winter Soldier" or even "X-Men: Days of Future Past", this is an action movie with a great main character played perfectly by Ryan Reynolds.
· What I liked: Ryan Reynolds IS Deadpool! - The funniest script ever! - Breaking the fourth wall - The so many references from popular culture.
· What I didn't like: The rest of the cast is forgettable - The plot is simple, don't expect any surprise - Too much violence and blood for my taste (but that's just my opinion...)
