The Martian - Review

::Rated "S" for "Some-Spoilers"::

When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crew mates hatch their own plan for a daring rescue mission.

Easy to follow and very entertaining, The Martian has become a huge surprise thanks to the small details and incredible cast. It kinda remembers to "Cast Away" in Mars, he must do everything to survive for an entire year so they can rescue him but things, as usual, get difficult. One of the good things I was afraid they won't do right was the path of the movie, I was hoping it would be fast-pacing and right to the point. I am happy to say they did it that way, from the very start of the movie to the very end we get to see the most important events without any unecessary scenes.

You'll feel many emotions, from worrying about the main character to joy when he gets something good or a plan goes as planned. There are a few intense scenes will make you cry, especially at the ending when he finally gets rescued. But not everything is sad, thanks to the comedy face of Matt Damon and the space diary he records everyday explaining his situation, he will make you smile and laugh. You'll see him from dull things like missing ketchup to becoming angry and saying bad words (in a censored way) when he realizes NASA didn't tell his friends he's still alive.

And that's another good point in the film, the cast. There are so many excellent actors and all of them make great performances, from Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean Sebastian Stan, Michael Peña and Chiwetel Ejiofor. All of them are perfectly cast, one of the best casting I've seen since "Avengers".

I really think Ridley Scott has done an amazing job, it's all in the small details not just the great cast and entertaining plot. Since the very start, we get to see the date written so we know how many days pass. In the diary recordings, there's also other things like his pulse and how many days left for the mission. Also, the soundtrack is amazing (kinda reminded me to Guardians of the Galaxy and its 70s hits), tapes from the commander of the mission and all of them are disco hits, it kinda feels like an inside joke for the audience while watching the film.

The Martian has become one of the best movies from 2015 thanks to the great cast and thrilling plot that will make you feel bad for the lost astronaut and laugh with him thanks to his likeable persona. Great soundtrack and small details that make this film an instant classic in science fiction!
