Final Fantasy XIII-2 Review
My first post here was the review of Final Fantasy XIII...time really flies...
This sequel is set three years after the ending of the last game, they call it year 003 AF (After Fall) but there's something different: Lightning is believed to be dead to everyone, except her sister Serah; she's the only one who remembers her being alive after the fight against the fake gods but people says she gave her life to stop Coccon fall and destroy Gran Pulse.
But Lightning is indeed alive in a dimension called Valhalla where she can watch the future, the present and the past. For an unkown reason (play the game if you want to know it) there's a man called Caius Ballad who never stops fightning against her; he's the main villian, and a real good villian, I can safely say this is the greatest villain in Final Fantasy since Sephiroth!
What you read was the plot, but the game centers in Serah and the newcomer Noel Kreiss (remembers me a lot to Sora from Kingdom Hearts) trying everything to find Lightning....Serah knows she's alive and wants to find her while Noel knows if he finds her, he will be able to change the future...
In the game there are new characters which, surprisingly, I enjoyed and liked them a lot (except the new shop called Chocolina...) like Alyssa, Mog and Yuj. And there are who comeback from the last game like Hope, who is by far better than he was in the last game, and Snow, who is as stubbon as ever.
The best improvement is the gameplay; you only can use Serah or Noel at anytime, but the upgrading system and customing is perfect, you can even change their clothes! The fights are even faster, which is a very good thing. There are adds like a couple of mini-games from a casino and a Colisseum where you can fight bosses again and known characters (like Lightning herself or Amodar, Lightning's boss) when they are available to download them.
This is another new thing: there will be downloable content, from characters, weapons, clothers to new story episodes and missions. This can sound like a good thing or a bad thing...
You use two characters while fightning but there's a monster spot where you can use a monster you catched before to fight with you, this remembers to Pokémon, and it's quite enjoyable, makes you remember the old feeling catch-them-all! You can even catch those unforgettable monsters like Tonberry or Cactuar.
Everything has been upgraded from the previous entry, but there's a step-back in this game: the story. The last game had an amazing story and great characters...while Serah and Noel are an OK characters, the best from here are the ones who wish they showed up more often, Lightning and the villain Caius. Lightning is the main protagonist of the story but it's a shame you can't use her and there're not so many scenes with her....this is a huge let down...but, as I said, the characters are not that bad, even the new secondary are quite enjoyable and likeable! And about the main story, you'll enjoy it a lot if you like time-travelling stories...as I do...
The story game (as they said, I haven't finish it yet) takes over 30 to 40 hours to complete plus there are lots of secondary missions, mini-games, the colisseum and 9 different endings (in order to see them all, you'll need to find all the time-fragments, and there are 160!!). Plus there's the downloable content which will expand the story!!
· STORY (9.7/10) : The characters are enjoyable and likeable but the story flaws and it's not that good if you compare it to the last game's...but still very good if you like time-travelling stories as I do!
· GRAPHICS (10/10) : Beautiful graphics, it uses the same engine as FFXIII but with a new point of view.
· SOUND (10/10) : Voices are excellent and music is as awesome as ever, new BSO with a few remixes from the last one.
· DURATION (9.5/10) : Between 30 and 40 hours for the main story and lots of stuff to do after you beat it...plus future DLC, all will take for your up to 100 hours!!
· GAMEPLAY (10/10) : Amazing, without doubt the best from the FF Series! Lots of things to do and a lot of freedom!

The two main characters you use the whole time are very likeable and well done, but you can see how the other characters are far better than them... |

The Opening of this game is the greatest any videogame I've ever seen! |
