Frozen 2 Review - Greatest sequel of all time
: RATED "SS" FOR SUPER SPOILERS - READ AT YOUR OWN RISK :
Five years after releasing the first movie, three years after my last review. As you can guess, I stopped using my blog a long time ago but I decided to come back to write one more review for the sequel of one of my favourite films of all time.
Set three years after the events from the first movie, the gang is back older and wiser with new problems. Olaf wants to grow up to understand everything he doesn't get, Kristoff wants to propose to her girlfriend, Anna just wants to protect her sister and Elsa wants to know her place in the world. There's no bad guy like Hans, so that's a thumbs up from me too.

The plot gets much mature and darker with more funny moments with Olaf, more emotional moments with Elsa and Anna and way more songs. Let's start with the songs; while none of them are a fully "Let it Go" successor, that doesn't mean they're bad at all, on the contrary, the first movie had just one memorable song to remember but Frozen 2 has like 4 different songs you can't get enough hearing just once. In my personal opinion, these would be my Top Favourite, in order:
1. Show Yourself : Greatest song, perfect competition for "Let it Go". Powerful song by Elsa almost at the end of the film aka. the spoiler-song. Both lyrics and music is amazing and will make you shed a tear or two.
2. All is Found : The sweet lullaby heard during the entire movie, sung by Elsa and Anna's mother. Short but beautiful, you'll love it even more after the end of the film.
3. Into the Unknown : The song heard everywhere by Elsa, it doesn't have that much power and emotions from the previous songs but still catchy and will get stuck in your head.
4. The Next Right Thing : Saddest moment and song from the entire film. Sung by Anna, this is an unexpected moment where everyone in the cinema was crying out loud.
5. Lost in the Woods : Okay, this was a surprise, I wasn't expecting a song from Kristoff and Sven. While all of it is played in his head, is a sweet song with a funny set filled with references from music videos of the 70s and 80s.
6. Some Things Never Change : The happy song where the entire cast sings. It feels like the "Everything is Awesome" LEGO song from Disney.
7. When I am Older : The Olaf comedy song. Don't get me wrong, this is a funny song but doesn't get to the level of the other ones.
This time around, Elsa gets in the main role while Anna is more like a supporting role. And her look changes are way too fabulous; she kinda gets an updated version from the infamous blue dress and an entire new look at the end of the movie with a speechless white dress and her hair let down. Her beauty cannot be compared...
Regarding the famous questions from the first movie; we kinda get them here, so right to the point, here are the answers. Be aware I said spoilers:
- Regarding Elsa and Anna parents : They met when they were very young, their mother helped their father while a fight between the two kingdoms started. She then hide went with him at Arendelle and later got married. She's connected to the Forest and its magic that's some of the reason of Elsa's powers. It is also confirmed their parents actually died in the events of the first film.
- Regarding Anna : She doesn't have any powers after all, she's the one destined to be the ruler of Arendelle and the protector of Elsa who's...
- Regarding Elsa: ... Elsa is the bridge that connects the human world with the spiritual one as she's the only one who can hear them (like her mother also did).
The entire movie feels like an upgrade from the first movie. An adventure of Anna and Elsa seeking the truth and unanswered questions and finally getting a happy ending for all of them. While the ending felt a little rush, I kinda liked it. Elsa decides to stay in the forest and protect it with the other 4 spirits while Anna and Kristoff become the new Queen and King of Arendelle.
A good way to end this beautiful story but only hope Disney makes Frozen 3...
I loved Frozen, it was my favourite Disney movie, past sentence because right now Frozen 2 has become my Top Favourite! They took out the small things I didn't enjoy from the prequel and added more from the stuff I loved!
Score:
100 / 100
