Jurassic World - Review
:: Rated "S" for "Super-Spoilers" - Read at your own risk ::
Located off the coast of Costa Rica, the Jurassic World luxury resort provides a habitat for an array of genetically engineered dinosaurs, including the vicious and intelligent Indominus-Rex. When the massive creature escapes, it sets off a chain reaction that causes the other dinos to run amok. Now, it's up to a former military man and animal expert Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), the park's operation manager to use his special skills to save two young brothers and the rest of the tourists from an all-out, prehistoric assault.
InGen security is back once again to settle the park in pure chaos by not helping anyone, they are interested in training the park's four Velociraptors for military use, but Owen, the raptor's trainer, argues that his being the raptors' alpha does not mean they are tamed or controllable. They still want to make advertising in the middle of the chaos and use the raptors to stop the Indominus.
The movie takes place 22 years after the events of the original film and omits the events of "The Lost World" and "Jurassic Park III". The plot is exactly the same as the original one with the exception of having the park open to the public. The park itself is amazing, I really wish it was real, loved every little detail from the shops to the main attractions.
Me, being a huge fan of the original film (if I recall, I watched it like 5 times in the cinema) absolutely loved all the mentions and easter eggs from "Jurassic Park"; one of my favourite parts is the scene where the original visitor's centre and the original jeep is shown, so many good memories...
None of the original actors show up in this sequel, with the exception of BD Wong as Dr. Wu as a man who only cares about himself and joins InGen (so, let's say he's a bad guy).
The good thing about the new cast is their likeness; Chris Pratt does a good acting playing as the raptor's whisperer and main character, he's very likeable and quite sure we'll see more from him in upcoming sequels. Then there's Bryce Dallas Howard as the workaholic Claire who only cares about the company and the park but she's the only character we'll see develop, at the end she cares much more about people and safety of others.
The two young actors who get lost in the park during the dinosaurs break and the rest of the cast are okay but forgettable, you'll actually only care about the dual protagonist than the rest.
The selection of dinosaurs in this movie is not a surprise at all; velociraptors are the most famous dinos in this franchise so they appear most of the time. I have nothing against it as they're my favourites and really liked the idea of having them as smarter than the rest of dinosaurs to the point of being good and not killing machines like they were in the previous movies.
The new one is named Indominus Rex (it's a mixing of Rex, Raptor, Cuttlefish, Snake, Carnotaurus and Giganotosaurus DNA) and it's a badass, only cares about killing and no one is able to beat it. But, as you already guessed, the beast is beaten at the end of the film during an amazing fight between the raptors and the return of an old friend, the T-Rex. That final fight was the highlight of the movie, so tense, unexpected and mindblown that my inner child was screaming amazed and speechless!
Another point I want to talk about are the special effects; they're the most realistic I've ever seen. The dinosaurs have never looked so real, you can even see their emotions just looking at their unreal expressions and eyes. But it kinda reminds how the dinosaurs from the original film were just animatronics and looked so good and real as well, they also were harder to create and make them look and move real. The good point about "Jurassic World" is the fact there are a few scenes where we get to see a couple more of those gigantic robots You can realy tell the difference.
Jurassic World finally manages to success in what the previous two films couldn't make. Making the dream come true opening the park to the public and, while the plot is quite predictable and a mere copy of the original film, it actually ententrains you until the end with endless action, amazing special effects and a realistic fear while watching those disastrous events. This is what a summer blockbuster has to be like, just enjoyment without much thinking.
· What I liked most: The main cast is great and very welcome to the franchise and the dinosaurs scenes are trilling and intense. Special effects are over the top!
· What I didn't like: Predictable film and slow at the start.
