The Hobbit "An Unexpected Journey" - Review

The Lord of the Rings universe is back! And in my personal opinion, looks even better!

This is the story of Bilbo, a young hobbit who is afraid of adventures and loves his quiet calmed life. But then he meets a wizard, Gandalf the Grey who embarks him in an amazing adventure.
"Bilbo Baggins is swept into a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever ... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities."

This story based on a novel by the creator of Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien, a book for children wrote before his great succesful trilogy. In this casse, the Hobbit is going to be released as a trilogy in films and I think it sounds quite good as they will be more similar to the book, this is the first one and the rest will be released every year

Let's start with the plot, is quite easy yet interesting, the group has to go to the Lonely Mountain to "destroy" Smaug and get their treausre back, the story is more about the adventures and criatures they find during the journey. In this film, we see lots of these cratures in a funny way of acting and some of those moments you have to laugh even at some peril scenes.

Martin Freeman is the best play from the film!

Bilbo is played by Martin Freeman in an amazing way, he's a great actor and has done some great plays like Dr.Watson on "Sherlock", he plays the unsecured hobbit very naturaly and it's worth watch the film only to see him act...a great actor who finally has a change to triumph worldwide.

Then you see old faces like Ian McKellen playing one more time Gandalf, Christopher Lee as Saruman and Hugo Weaving (another great actor) as Elrond. All the dwarves are very well played and some of them very funny indeed...
Gollum also appears and you finally see how he loses the unique Ring and Bilbo gets it while playing a "riddles contest", it's a very funny and cute scene where Gollum and Bilbo interact for almost 20 minutes, one of my favourite scenes from the film without doubt!

While the first 30 minutes are a bit slow (before they start the journey), the rest of the film is very well done and not slow neither fast, just at normal timing. Some people may not liked as it doesn't have epic fights or that excessive violence like in LotR, but for me, I really enjoyed it, very interesting and makes you want more once it ends...beautifuly, by the way...

BEST - The entire cast plus the comedic sense and funny scenes that makes it a "different" film, plus Gollum's sceme-
WORST - Too slow at the start of the film and it's quite a shame we have to wait for other two films to see the ending...
